“Describing how individuals can use podcasting as a digital tool to advance their careers or reputations with social media.”

When using social media a person can choose a platform to work on for their career or personal connections. The options we have are microblogging, blogging, podcasts, and social networking sites. Microblogging can be best used at Twitter.com. When using a blog, anyone can create their own business or personal blog. Podcasts are created by the individual to cover some material about something and is mainly used for educational and professional speeches. The social networking sites are best used for personal communications with family and friends. Although we can set up the social media site to be exclusive for business interactions. Just remember if you are looking for a job make sure to keep your image professional and be careful what you post because employers may look at your social media activities. Your self-image and public image should be the same and be clear on your niche, your discipline, your experience, and expertise in your specific career field (Thomas, 2011). When using the social media sites strictly for business make sure to have private settings applied so only your company personnel are allowed to do the networking. I personally feel that having your own business blog is one of the best platforms to use and to advance your career in, because you have the freedom to show who you are and get people of like minded interested and involved to what you are doing for work. Always remember to edit for any necessary changes and to check to make sure that what is in your podcast what you really want to say to the targeted audience. With podcasting we can hear the person’s voice and listen to their message or program.
